Lab description
This cross-cutting lab within the SCSD Research Department aims to research global surgery and surgical system strengthening topics, explicitly focusing on surgical quality provision and surgical services for underserved settings.
Lab vision
In response to the SCSD’s commitment to achieving high-quality surgical services, this research lab was launched to support this vision by researching and learning from a broader context similar to Sudan.
Leadership

Lab director: Dr Mohammed A. Adam MBBS, MRCS, MSc, MHPEdu
Professional and Leadership Background:
Mohammed graduated with an MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum, followed by a Master of Science in Health Profession Education from Alneelain University, and another Master of Science in Global Health with Global Surgery at King’s College London.
Mohammed had plenty of health service and organisations work, starting from the Khartoum Medical Students’ Association (KMSA), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Secretary for the Africa Working Group and the Director of the SOTA Fellowship Program in the G4 Alliance. Mr Adam has been the Chief Visionary Officer in the Sudanese Consortium for Surgical Development since 2020.
Research Focus and Publications:
Mohammed’s research journey started early during his medical school with the Khalawi Health Promotion Project by KMSA. It was funded by UNICEF in 2018, followed by leading and participating in many surgery-related projects targeting quality, accessibility and service provision, especially for underprivileged community sectors. Mr Adam was Part of the IMPACT Global study at the Michelle Lab, PGSSC at Harvard Medical School. Currently, Mr Adam works at Imperial College London as a Clinical Researcher.

Lab coordinator: Manasik Mamoun
Professional and Leadership Background:
Manasik is a medical graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Neelain University.
Research Focus and Publications:
Manasik’s current focus is conflict-related research. She is keen to explore how conflict affects health systems on various levels. Feel free to check her publications at ORCID.
