Our History
2019 - Establishment
The Sudanese Consortium for Surgical Development (SCSD) was established by final-year medical students driven by their passion for surgery. Dr. Mohammed Abass, a senior general surgery registrar, formed the "Mohammed Abbas Research Group" to connect students with hospitals and surgeons for research support.
2019-2021 - Research Foundation
The group's primary focus was collecting data from colorectal patients in Khartoum hospitals and developing electronic databases for research generation.
Late 2021 - Evolution
Due to growing interest, the group rebranded as the Sudanese Surgical Research Foundation (SSRF) and expanded its electronic database to include additional hospitals in Khartoum, Sudan.
May 2022 - SCSD Formation
The organisation transformed into the current Sudanese Consortium for Surgical Development (SCSD), broadening its vision to include surgical training and educational programs.
Present Day
Today, SCSD continues Dr. Mohammed Abass's legacy (who passed away in July 2021) by leveraging our extensive network to enhance surgical care across Sudan through education, research, advocacy, and community outreach.
